The move to online assessments gives rise to a distinctive set of challenges for school technology. The Tech Readiness Tool gives schools a convenient way to capture and report on indicators of their technology readiness for the new Race to the Top Assessments.
Who Created The Tool?
The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), working with the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) and Pearson, have developed the Technology Readiness Tool to support states as they transition to next-generation assessments.
Why Use The Tech Readiness Tool?
This open source tool will help state education agencies work with schools and districts to ensure readiness when the online assessments are launched by the two consortia, beginning in the 2014/15 school year.
What does the Tech Readiness Tool Measure?
The Technology Readiness Tool assesses current capacity and compares that to the technology that will be needed to administer the new online assessments in four areas:
1. Computers & other devices
2. Ratio of devices to test-takers
3. Network and infrastructure
4. Personnel (staffing & training)
